Working with Cinefoil

Cinefoil is aluminium foil with a matt back surface which is used in photography and film for “modifying” light by creating a baffle or a tube, for instance.
The characteristics that I have found work well for my work are that it tears easily and leaves a bright line along the edge of the tear which contrast well with the matt black. It also marks easily when you fold or rub it, again creating the contrast with the black. I have been surface marking with a variety of tools including glass paper.
Finally cinefoil takes on impressions and shapes well and then holds them, but don’t press too hard or it will tear.
The example below shows an impression, tearing and surface marking.
