A fragile balance

This is the largest pot that that I’ve burnt and when it cooled and started to contract I lost quite a bit more from it than I had hoped. It is still very fragile and there is always a balance to be struck between burning too much and taking too much away and not doing enough.

Seeing how fragile it was got me thinking that things can’t always be made whole and my original thought of banding it was going to be a bit futile.  I’ve therefore bent and broken copper nails and included them inside the piece to symbolise the attempt at repairing / healing which has failed. That may well be pushing a meaning too hard, but on balance I think its OK as you have to look carefully to notice the nails and then again to see that they are all bent and broken.
